CASTING CALL

Four couples gather in a suburban home for an evening of wine, cheese and more intimate pleasures. Seasoned swingers and curious new-comers alike are intrigued and unsettled by the arrival of one guest in particular, and comic mayhem ensues.

The Sex Party by Terry Johnson is a black comedy about sexual freedom, gender politics, consent and liberation. Humourous and satirical, farcical and thoughtful, the play explores the complexity of contemporary sexual relations in a bold, erotic, and hilarious manner.

ALEX

Late 40’s, comfortably off, academic. Upper middle class. Relaxed, sophisticated of thought. Genial but somehow reserved.

GILLY

Mid 40’s, handsome, housewife. Intelligent and curious. Oppressed but not defeated by the trials of marriage. She rises to most occasions. Her slight bitterness with life’s disappointments she takes out only on her husband, and herself. Her sexual drive has been smothered, but is still there.

JAKE

Late 40’s, casual conservative, teacher. Lower middle class, working class background. Personable but slightly edgy. Chippy on occasions.

MAGDALENA

Mid 40’s, Russian, wiry, attractive. Very outspoken and honest. A nymphomaniac. An alcoholic. Underneath her lust for life, a huge sadness born of displacement.
